Dear KASWEA members and Colleagues,
Together with my colleagues at the Korean American Social Work Educators (KASWEA), I wish you a very happy, healthy and prosperous New Year!
I am humbled, honored and privileged to assume the role of President of the KASWEA (2017-2019). The KASWEA was initially formed as a network group of Korean American social work educators who attended at the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) Annual Program Meetings (APM) around 1980. With more than 200 members, we have been recognized by the CSWE with its highest level of distinction. KASWEA have been marked by noteworthy achievement and change in the past 12 months. As we reflect on the past year, I believe that we have many reasons to have enormous pride in our accomplishments and look forward with enthusiasm to this year at the KASWEA.
With a strong commitment to our Mission Vision and Values, the KASWEA continues to be a strong advocate for our members. The KASWEA activities are guided by its mission statement " to help provide guidance and support for career development, promotion, and productivity of its membership; to share and exchange information or opportunity for research and other academic activities among its membership; to make social work contributions to the Korean American community by means of academic resources and leadership; to foster cooperation and collaboration with the social work educator's organization in Korea; to enhance academic exchange with other associations of Korean scholars or professionals in North America; to promote individual, family, and community well-being, and social, economic, and environmental justice by engaging in local and international collaborations; to promote fellowship among its membership, and are committed to serving diverse populations.”
Our member possess impressive skills in clinical practice and in working with groups, communities, organizations, and in policy to implement solutions to solve the most pressing societal problems. Their outstanding research and scholarship contribute to identifying, preventing, and reducing the overwhelming challenges marginalized populations experience in the U.S. and globally.
I invite you to continue to browse our website to learn more about our activity. KASWEA continued commitment to you, our members, is to focus on how we can support your growth and be an effective voice on your behalf. I sincerely look forward to our journey together over the next year as your President.
